Chlorpyrifos is a toxic pesticide used on a wide variety of crops, including apples, oranges, strawberries, and other foods people eat daily. Science shows it harms the developing brain of children. Now, California has a chance to ban this dangerous pesticide — but we need your help!
SB 458, which would ban chlorpyrifos, is navigating the State Senate now. The bill must pass the Senate Floor by May 31,2019.
Based on numerous scientific studies, the EPA determined in 2015 that even very low levels of exposure to chlorpyrifos can damage children’s developing brains, and recommended a ban. But the Trump administration’s EPA refuses to ban the use of this dangerous pesticide on our food, even though government scientists said chlorpyrifos is unsafe. This decision neglects the agency’s own science and puts the health of millions of children at risk.
Earthjustice will hold the Trump administration accountable. Last year, a court ordered the EPA to put a full ban in place, but the agency has appealed. While our lawsuit continues, we are asking states to take action.
Help California become a leader in protecting public health. Please tell your legislators that you support SB 458, which would prohibit the use of chlorpyrifos in California.
