In many rural communities across the country, longtime residents have unexpectedly found themselves surrounded by industrial livestock facilities. These factory “farms” hold tens of thousands of animals in a confined space and can produce as much waste as a mid-sized city.
Every day, families living nearby are exposed to toxic ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from the manure created and stored at these factory farms. Yet unlike other factories, these meat operations have been given a free pass from reporting their toxic emissions.
Tell the Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw its proposed rule that would illegally exempt livestock facilities from reporting their pollution.
